FAQ About Awnings in Kent

Yes, if you’re in Kent, we cover all areas, including Maidstone, Canterbury, Bromley, Orpington, Chislehurst, Broadstairs, Faversham and surrounding areas. In fact, we cover most locations across England and Wales.

Most retractable awnings count as permitted development and don’t need planning permission — but there are conditions: it can’t project more than 4 metres from the house, must be no higher than 4 metres if it’s within 2 metres of a boundary, and shouldn’t cover more than half the garden once combined with any other extensions. If your property is listed, or you’re in a conservation area — which covers parts of Canterbury, Faversham, Sandwich and several other historic Kent towns — the rules are stricter, so it’s worth checking with your local council first. If you’re not sure, give us a call and we can talk you through it based on your specific property.
