  • Old Patio Awning Replaced with Quiet-Motor LED Awning

    Excellent Service!

    Following the failure of our old patio awning I searched for a company able to repair it. I found Sun Blinds Installations on a Google search. I explained the situation, following an email discussion and sending photos to their agent Dave, he suggested that given the age and condition of the awning and the work needed to restore it that it might be more cost effective to consider a new replacement.

    He suggested a suitable replacement and sent us specifications and a catalogue of available materials. We were happy to agree to his suggestion and were sent by email an order form which we completed and returned. We paid the 50% deposit which was quickly acknowledged by James at the head office who thankfully coordinated everything.

    James arranged a surveyor to visit shortly afterwards and another John visited to take the necessary measurements and offered some constructive advice on the finer points of our requirements. He also brought with him a book of patterns to confirm our selection which was very helpful in being able to view our choice from various angles both from inside and outside the house.

    Following his visit we only had to wait about four and a half weeks before having an installation date confirmed.

    On the day of installation John and his colleague Mark arrived on time and quickly set about dismantling the old awning and soon had the new awning fixed in place. They tested it and made the necessary height adjustments to clear our hanging baskets. During the whole installation process John and Mark were very efficient and happy to answer our questions as they worked. On completion of their work they made sure that the patio was cleared of all debris including using a dustpan and brush to clear the brick dust caused by their drilling and fixing work. Before they left Mark made sure that we understood the awning’s operation and routine maintenance and care. They also removed the old awning.

    The new awning is manufactured to a very high quality with a very quiet electric motor. It is easy to operate with the supplied remote control with a magnetic cradle which John kindly fixed inside our kitchen for easy access. The awning also has LED lights in the arms and brilliantly illuminates our patio making it much more usable after dark. It is also supplied with a manual winder so that it can be retracted only if there is a power cut. Overall we are very impressed with the product.

Yes, if you’re in Kent, we cover all areas, including Maidstone, Canterbury, Bromley, Orpington, Chislehurst, Broadstairs, Faversham and surrounding areas. In fact, we cover most locations across England and Wales.

Most retractable awnings count as permitted development and don’t need planning permission — but there are conditions: it can’t project more than 4 metres from the house, must be no higher than 4 metres if it’s within 2 metres of a boundary, and shouldn’t cover more than half the garden once combined with any other extensions. If your property is listed, or you’re in a conservation area — which covers parts of Canterbury, Faversham, Sandwich and several other historic Kent towns — the rules are stricter, so it’s worth checking with your local council first.
