Recovering for modern and traditional awnings. He can also carry out repairs to conservatory and veranda awnings.
Really pleased with our awning. Very easy company to deal with. Got exactly what we wanted with some extras like the built in lights which we love! Installers were also great, all done on time, very little disruption and great attention to detail. And very competitively priced. Thoroughly recommend.

Yes, if you purchased your awning elsewhere and the company no longer sells awnings. Or they may have ceased trading we can step in and help in most cases.
In a lot of cases awnings can be repaired. If the awning is a high-quality luxury awning then the chances of a repair are higher. It will work out less expensive to have the awning repaired rather than replaced. On the other hand if the awning is a budget model that only cost a few hundred pounds, the cost of repairs carried out by an awning company will probably work out more than the cost of the awning. In this case you would either invest in a quality awning or simply replace it with a budget awning. If you’re not sure whether you have a quality or budget awning simply send us a picture of what you have and we will advise you accordingly.
The first thing to do check that there is power running to the electric motor. Check that the fuse in the plug hasn’t blown. Check that the remote control battery is working. If you have a spare battery change it over. Once you have done all of that and the awning will still not work. The likely hood is that the motor has simply stopped working.
The motor is built into the awning and it is tubular in shape. The motor is inserted inside the steel barrel that fabric rolls around. As the motor is in a sealed unit it shouldn’t be dismantled. You will need to contact a specialist awning company like SBI Ltd (Sun Blinds Installations). They will carefully remove the motor and replace it with a new one. We use genuine Somfy motors and controls and offer the new motors with a 5-year warranty. For advice on what strength of motor you require or fault diagnosis.
Identify what crank you have either hook or hook and ball. Let us know how long overall the crank is. We will provide you with a price for a replacement.
If the awning arm has become bent, snapped or a cable has broken. Then a replacement arm will be required. For us to provide you with a guarantee on the arm. We have to replace both or all of the arms at the same time.
Please, do not attempt to repair an arm as they are sprung loaded and dangerous!
At SBI we specialise in both domestic and commercial awnings. We’ll get your restaurant awning ship shape to get your premises looking its best as soon as possible. We also do sign writing and have plenty of experience working with restaurants and similar commercial settings.
Some awning repairs can be simple to carry out. Generally, if the awning can be repaired it will be cheaper than replacing the whole awning. Carrying out awning repairs yourself can be dangerous due to the arms having springs inside them. The arms are very powerful and potentially very dangerous. Our team of advisors, surveyors and installers can carry out repairs to many different makes and models of awnings. If your awning is no longer manufactured we can offer you a suitable affordable replacement. Contact us for more advice by email or phone.
This is a very hard question to answer. There are so many factors to take into account. For example, if you buy a DIY budget awning the cost could be a few hundred pounds. If you bought a made to measure luxury awning, with accessories you could spend upwards of £10,000. As you can see there is a massive difference in price. The cost comparison is similar to purchasing a car. You could buy a Mercedes Benz Maybach Exelero for £6.4 million or a Dacia Sandero for £6,995. Both will get you from A to B but if you have a higher budget you get more for your money! The same is true when purchasing an awning. Speak to the experts for guidance on your next replacement awning purchase.
Our team of advisors have access to hundreds of different makes and models of awnings. Once they have worked out what you require you’ll get a detailed written estimate of the cost. Contact us and we’ll be happy to help.

IF YOUR AWNING IS OUT OF WARRANTY WE RECOMMEND CHANGING THE MOTOR & REMOTE!
- The reason we recommend this course of action is if we can still get parts and service your awning.
- It is well worth maintaining it as replacing with new will cost thousands of pounds.
- If your motor is still working there will be a day in the future when it stops.
- Normally you don’t get any warning that the motor is going to stop working it just STOPS!
- Over the years we have found that the awning is normally fully extended when this happens.
- The problem you then face is how are you going to CLOSE the awning? The answer is your not!
- Thomas Sanderson Awnings do not have a manual override fitted to the awnings.
- You can’t simply wind it away if the motor fails or there is a power cut.
